Auden’s reference as the human position of suffering means that no matter the incident-taking place either victorious or tragic, some people around during the incident would act different or ignorant about the incident. The difference can be link to our society today. Most people tend to not be aware of whatever is going on in their environments now. They are either on their phones texting or on social media and end up missing something important around them.
